Homophobia or Humanophobia?

Recently Indian high court has legalized same-sex marriages. That’s great I know, but I have a silly little question. Who said same-sex marriages weren’t legal in the first place? That’s a one logical question, isn’t it?

Anyways let’s get to our center subject, HOMOPHOBIA. There are loads of homophobes out there in every country, not just in India. But do you know who were the first ones??? Those stupid people who passed/made a stupid law calling same-sex relations illegal. I mean how the hell did they decide what’s legal and what isn’t on their own..? Who gave them rights to call heterosexuality legal and normal while calling homosexuality illegal, unnatural and culture opposing?

On 11 December 2013, meeting for the judgement of the Supreme Court regarding Section 377 was held with support from religious leaders where these leaders across sections came forward in decrying homosexuality and expressing their solidarity with the judgment. The articles in many daily newspapers added that Baba Ramdev who is India’s well-known yoga guru, stated he could cure homosexuality through yoga and called it a bad addiction. Maulana Madni, of an Islamic organization, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind stated, “Homosexuality is a crime according to scriptures and is unnatural. Rabbi Ezekiel Isaac Malekar, honorary secretary of the Judah Hyam Synagogue, quoted as saying, In Judaism, our scriptures do not permit homosexuality. Despite of their wrong and stupid accusations and oppositions, India decriminalized homosexual relationships in 2018.

It is wrong to judge people on their sexual preferences and whole world has been doing it since… well if not since establishment of the first human civilization, then homophobic practices has been done since last many centuries. But It’s good to know that homosexual relationships are legal now, though they shouldn’t be illegal in the first place. However, we will concentrate on the positive aspect.

Even so, homosexuality is legal now, there are millions of people out there who still think being gay/lesbian/bi/trans isn’t normal or is wrong and some people even think it is sin in god’s eye. Some asshole say it’s just a phase and it’ll be over soon. While some folks think, their children are just young and confused or they’ve been brainwashed or possessed by some evil spirit. And some people even think it’s a psychological disorder and can be cured by some medicines. I mean it’s preposterous, isn’t it? I can understand some people are old fashioned and can’t understand these things, but judging people and telling them they’ll be going to hell for their sin (being homosexual) is just absurd. Moreover, its 21st century now, for how long will you excuse of being old fashioned. And for the record, there’s no mention of being homosexual is sinful in any of the religious books. Moreover, just think why creator (God) would label some of their creations (we humans) normal and some abnormal? It doesn’t even make sense.

Since I came to know about different sexualities, I always had a thought running back and forth in my cerebrum asking myself why only gay people has to come out to society and why heterosexuality is default. I guess it has connection with those douchebags who criminalized homosexuality. If they hadn’t criminalized homosexual practices, scenario would be different today. Well we cannot just blame them, can we? Rather than that, we can try to enlighten people and make them understand about these problems and talk them out of it. But here’s the major problem, people has just made their mind about homosexuality. People has already concluded that only heterosexuality should be the way and homosexuality isn’t normal. Again, the question arises why that is so. Major reason behind this is cinema. However, the scenario has changed now; It’s good to see people are taking initiatives to make LGBTQ supporting movies. But for last many decades, people ae used to watch films, which includes making fun of gay characters and in worst cases even bully them.

love, homosexuality, marriage

Nowadays bullying gay/bi/trans people is just eventuality. Here’s the irony, these are those idiots only who post quotes on “equality for men/women” on social media and tell others to stop stereotyping against men/women. I’m not saying society doesn’t face gender stereotypes, off course they do. But what I’m trying to say is you have no right to make a statement on gender equality and stereotypes if you are bullying any kid or person for their sexual preferences. Where do your “sensitivity” go when you tease someone for being homosexual? However, everyone isn’t same. Where there are these bullying homophobes, there are some good people too who doesn’t differentiate/judge people by their sexual preferences.

Have you ever wondered what if this scene was totally opposite than what is now? I mean everyone would be probably thinking homosexuality is normal and heterosexuality isn’t, straight people would’ve to come out and I’d be writing an article for HETEROPHOBIA. I want to ask a questions to those HOMOPHOBES out there that if the scenario was different than today, would you be HETEROPHOBES? Would they criticize straight people like they do homosexuals? I would not because I don’t think there is any difference between homosexuality and heterosexuality. It’s just sexual preference of people, Both of them are normal according to me and neither is sin or illegal.

I am proud of myself that I’m not a bloody homophobic and surrounded by some great friends who aren’t either. I hope whoever reading this will change their perspectives if they think homosexuality is sin or isn’t normal or need to be cure or is illegal. Just remember, “EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT BUT PERFECT.”
